Un arbuste ou grimpeur brouillé. Il s'étend sur le sol et peut s'étendre de 2 à 4 m de large. Il a de courtes épines et des vrilles le long des tiges. Il pousse à partir d'un tubercule vivace. Les feuilles sont composées, grandes et grossières. Les feuilles sont généralement divisées en 5 à 9 folioles qui varient en taille et en forme. Le limbe des folioles principales mesure de 5 à 13 cm de long sur 1 à 8 cm de large. Ils sont vert foncé sur le dessus et blanchâtres en dessous. Il peut y avoir des dents irrégulières autour du bord de la feuille. Les fleurs sont petites et rouge foncé. Les fruits sont des baies rondes et charnues. Ils peuvent mesurer 1 cm de diamètre.
