Une grande fougère arborescente. Il peut atteindre une hauteur de 8 à 12 m. Il a un grand tronc ligneux qui peut mesurer 1 m de diamètre. C'est sombre et rugueux. Les frondes mesurent 4 m de long et peuvent être divisées 2 ou 3 fois. Les frondes se courbent et sont vert foncé. Le dessous des frondes est vert pâle. Les bases des stipes sont rugueuses. Il a des frondes plus courtes et plus fines que Cyathea cooperi. Les corps de spores ou sori sont situés à la fourche des veines sur la face inférieure des frondes.
