Un petit arbre. Il atteint une hauteur de 4 à 10 m. Il a une habitude touffue. La jeune pousse est vert clair et légèrement poilue. Il y a de larges bractées près des fleurs et celles-ci ont des franges autour d'elles. Les fleurs mâles et femelles sont petites et vertes. Le fruit est une capsule de 0,8 cm de long et gonflée.
